Sara, can you call someone locally and ask for a ballpark figure? Look up adoption attorney. Or call the courthouse and ask what kind of paperwork is required and go from there? Maybe you can do most of the "leg" work yourself if Pinky is in agreement with the adoption.

My attorney told us his fee would be around 1500.00 and then there is court cost around 500.00 the home study 1000.00 and 50.00 for the finger printing and back ground check publishing in the paper for 30 days is 150.00 and any unseen expenses he told us to count on around 5000.00 and hopefully it will be less. Now, there expediencies we have that you prob won't have. I know they will in our state Grandparents do not have to have a home study, if Pinky is consenting then the fathers id the only one that will have to be served, and if they are unknown it can be published.

you will save the 1000.00 for the home study since you are the your GPs and uncontested court cost is about half in my state, Also the finger printing and back ground check you will not have to have since you are the GP, If I had to guess in your case I would guess your attorney's fees about 1500.00 which most will take half and the balance before court hearing and the court in our state is paid at the final hearing.

I would say do it ASAP if Pinky is willing that will save you money.

Sara, check with your state. In AZ we had to have the in home , finger printing/background check even though we were the materal GP. We also are having a problem getting the birth certificates. Our lawyer didn't file it with the courts at time of adoption. The judge refuses to sign the information over to Vital statistics. this form can only be processed in our state via lawyer. ( he's paid so why does he care) You might not think this may be a problem since the kids names didn't change, but it is with pass ports,SS # and I'm sure the IRS is going to get involved since we get to claim them this year.

I believe the finger printing is a federal law. The adoption cost us about $700. It was the court battles to get to the point of adoption that cost us everything we had. If there is no contest, should be under $1000.

So far I have spent $2000 which included attorney fees for 2 court hrgs on dad's petition for visitation and his no show at 2nd hrg. In Ohio a home study must be done. To file the petition was $900 ($450 per kid). Since it will be contested by all, I don't have a clue what my final cost will be. One of the dad's is currently in jail charged with rape and another sex crime plus he is currently awaiting trial for soliciting for sex from two 14 yr old girls and a 12 yr girl. No idea where the other dad is. Hopefully terminating their parental rights will be easy

Sara, I was told a minimum of 3,000. Probably around 5,000 and could be up to 30,000 if contested. Those, of course, are very ball-park figures.

If Pinky is ready to give up her parental rights, it will save you a ton of money. The biod already did that, didn't he? I'm digging back in my memory here.....

I was also advised not to do it without an attorney, because if one little piece of information is missing, they can throw the whole thing out and you have to start over.
