My kids didn't report anything bad at others houses , But I did find out they went out window together at my house, and later found one of their friends was being molested by her father ( my daughters spent the night there)
I hate the thought of the responsibilty and all, I would like to think I would allow it at some point but can't stand the thought now. I guess it depends on how much you trust your kids and how well you know the other parents , are they strict or slack? Go with your gut
I thought back, and realized that I didn't have many sleepovers - mostly at relatives' homes. After 14 I didn't have any. I don't know whether my mom said "no" or whether it just didn't happen for whatever reason. I'd spend the whole day at a friend's, but always came home.
It's a hard call, because we live in a rural area and it's difficult for the kids to see each other. But I'm just getting increasingly uncomfortable with the sleepover thing except for their own aunts and uncles.
"I feel like something that could have been a wonderful part of growing up has become overkill. Once again society seems to have taken a good thing and over done it ad nauseum. With four kids in the house someone was always invited to spend the night - every weekend. If you let one, you have to let another. It gets crazy. Takes on a life of its own. Someone had to stop the madness. I couldn't live a life that was destined to star an overtired smart-mouthed kid EVERY weekend.
Why does EVERYthing have to turn into a sleepover?
I mean EVERYthing. Doesn't matter where they are, what they are doing or which kid it is. The magic words "spend the night" will always come into play."
And from Empoweringparents.com
"I am aware that Im probably in the minority when I suggest that perhaps its time for a re-evaluation of the concept of sleepovers. I think they should be the exception rather than the rule. In many cases, the parents go to sleep and the kids go on to party."
I think I am going to put a stop to sleepovers - at leas the "every weekend" ones.
When my boys were in high school my house was the house where everyone spent the night. My boys went to school out of district, two boys from unstable homes would come home with them on the bus every weekend for four years. Another boy from a stable home would come whenever he could. At least I knew where they were and who they were with. Lucky for me they never gave me any trouble. The parents from the stable home, good people, I think the step dad was glad the kid was not at home. The singe mother had more then one loose screw, I found out that when they were seniors she was letting the kid from the good home shack up with his girl friend at her home.
I'd never even given consideration to older brothers before, but now it's a BIG issue.
Either way I'm sure I'll be seen as a bad grandmother. Oh, well....
