He's on MA now, but in July 2011 DH and I will switch from the 2-person health plan to a family plan so he will be covered. He will be 18 when he graduates May 2012, and if we don't add him in July of this year, his MA coverage will end when he graduates high school and there would be a gap in his coverage from May 2012 until we could add him in July 2012. I't s shame we will have to pay all that extra insurance premium for for 11 months just to be sure he is not without insurance for 1 month, but I just won't take a chance.
I'm so glad you mentioned the living will. DH and I have one but would never have thought of that for Tyler. We will make sure we have that and a POA for healthcare for him just in case. We do have cheap term life insurance for him, also just in case, and it's very inexpensive because of his young age.
He's extremely healthy and seldom even gets a cold, but he is an athlete and has had a couple of injuries, one that necessitated emergency surgery, so going without healthcare, especially if he plays football in college, is not an option.
