for now I will not get the h1n1 shot. Not sure what to do with the grandkids but I really do not want them to get it yet either. Think I will wait for a while until I see if there are any other reactions from this shot.

My little feller has asthma and was very premature so the clinic actually called and told us to bring him in for the shot. He got the inactivated shot.In his case, I felt we had to. He can't have the live virus because of asthma. He was just fine. No problems w/ shot.We live on an island and h1n1 is sweeping through. Shot takes 1-2 weeks to kick in. Well, 6 days after shot he got the flu. So the shot was of no use anyway. He missed 10 days of school and highest temp was 104. temp came back twice 24-48 hours after it subsided. A mean bug!! He is fine now. I have a friend who's granddaughter is going in for further testing because after the flu she keeps getting temps weeks after and her blood work is coming back with infection somewhere. I would say if your child has immune problems get the shot. IMHO. The inactivated virus will not give you flu.
My husband got a milder case and I did not get it.
I try to keep immunity up with vitamins etc and wash hands very often.

I work in the medical field. There would be a risk for Guillain-Barre for anyone taking the activated vaccine, but it would be a very small risk and not anything compared to the risks associated with getting H1N1.

Logically it makes sense that the risk increases if there is a history of Guillain-Barre. Guillain-Barre happens after having a viral illness in a very small percentile of people. I have not heard of any link with GBS regarding mercury. I have also not heard of any claims of any links to autism. I would be interested in seeing the source of this information.

Missy's pediatrician wants her to have the shot/mist...not sure which she will get. I believe if this ped who is reallllllly on top of things thinks it is important for her to get it then she should have it.

Now saying that we have made 2 appts so far only to have them canceled because the office didn't receive the vaccine. Now they are just telling me to call every 3 days to see if it is in yet.

I ended up getting the shots for my 2 because the grands all have asthma and just didn't want to chance it with the smaller ones. My girls are 9 & 11 so I finally decided the risk was less with them. I am allergic to eggs and my gs is on a very slowed down scedule for his immunizations due to autism in dils family that started at the time of a vaccine. The autism on the girls bio paternal side is there before immunizations.

Last night on the news they had a very sad report about a little 7 yr old boy in our area dying from h1n1. It seems he was sent home from school on (Mon) Nov 2 with a fever but by the next morning (Tues) Nov 4th it was gone but was taken to his ped, monitored for awhile and sent home, by (Wed) Nov 5th (6:59 am) he woke up feeling lethargic, pale and with a high fever again, his mother called 911, he was taken to the hospital and dead by 4 pm!

The parnets had not gotten him the shot because mom had heard that sometimes the shot makes you get the flu, now he is dead. He was a basically healthy little 7 yr old who in a matter of days lost his life to this hideous thing. The parents said last night if they had known how bad this stuff was they certianly would have gotten him the shot and his little brother.

Joey's only health concerns were underlying asthma and being born premature.

People, believe me this is serious, I know I'm still not completely better and it's been almost 5 wks since we had it.
