Thank god he is alright. I wish him a speedy recovery. I am sure you are wore out physically and mentally from all this. Take care of yourself too. best wishes and hugs.

Glad to hear he will be ok. My husband has this same surgery back when he was 12 in Germany....this can also happen from growing too fast as well....it causes extreme pain...my husband ended up passing out on the school bus home...the cord in both testicles as well as the blood vein in the penis had to be straightened...the cords were twisted in 3 places...he's now 46 and has never had a problem.

WOW! What a horrible experience for him and you I really glad to hear things turned out well my little GS will be three next month. He was jumping on the bed with Paw-Paw and fell against the night stand didnt cry or anything after a few minutes he came to me saying his thumb wouldnt work we tried to see what he was talking about he held up his thumb and the first joint was bent down I tried to check it out but he kept saying Ill do it so he grabs it and pulls with all his might and we heard the loudest pop grossed me out then he holds it up smiles and says I fix it Look Granna I fix it it was straight and he was moving it of course I called the Dr. she said he evidently knocked it out of socket and pulled it back in himself amazing how kids can heal

granna, I get grossed out when the kids do that disjointed thing some of them can do with their thumbs - I think I would have passed out if my grandkids "fixed" a popped thumb! YIKES!!!!!

KathyAK - glad your husband came out okay, too. My GS was also in horrible pain - vomitted all the way to ER. They just gave him Tylenol with codeine at first, then after they saw the ultra sound, they brought in morphine. The surgeon said he sutured things so the cord cannot twist again, so maybe your husband's surgeon did the same thing.

The joint thing sounds awful - can't imagine a child doing that!

How is your grandson today. I hope and pray that he is feeling better.

I guess I missed something. How old is he? I worry about kids getting hurt and some of it is because I forget that they heal faster than I do at my age.

He's feeling better - went to school today. He will be 16 on Saturday. He's feeling bummed about missing a few football games but hopeful he'll be able to play in about 3 weeks. He's especially upset about missing the one this Saturday. It's Homecoming, it's his birthday, and they're playing their toughest game of the year - both teams are undefeated. He feels like he's letting his team down even though he can't help it. I told him to be grateful that he'll have two more years to play after this so he'll play lots more football.

Just curious - do they wear cups to play football? Did he have one on? If not, I think he better consider getting one and using it!!!! I know guys don't like them, but it would have to be better than what he just went through. Poor guy!!!

The 'girdle' he wears does have one built in, but we're going to get him an add-on one for more protection before he goes back out there. He should also wear it for basketball, as I was told that type of injury is a common basketball injury.
