Food Stamps

We just got our granddaughters and was told they didnt know if they could stop their bio mom's benefits for next month or not because of living in separte countys. The bio mom is willing to give us some food stamps for the girls. Does anyone know if we will get in trouble for excepting them? We I went to our welfare office to apply for assistance they told me the girls would not get food stamps because my husband and I make to much money. i dont want to take anything and take a chance on losing the girls.

Not sure about the laws we dont get FS but what I would do is this. Have the daughter go with you to the store and you pick out some items for the girls and let her pay for them. That way she hasnt given you the FS but bought the girls what they needed with their share of the FS.

In WI food stamps are non-transferrable. You have to show ID when you cash them in. lol.

I liked granna's suggestion.

Also, even if you don't qualify for food stamps you may qualify for WIC. It isn't much, but every little bit helps.

Don't you get a debit card? That's what they give out in PA and NJ. If you know the password, you can use it.

EBT cards can be used by another person to provide food for the "household members" of the person who gets the card.
There is nothing illegal about that.
If they gave you the card and pin number, use it. You don't even have to sign anything.

Also, the card gets automatically deposited to, and you don't lose what you don't spend. Like rollover minutes.
Therefore,it would make no sense to "get the card so you can stock pile food" Since, not using the card would simply accumulate the amounts.
If you get the card, use it. If the adult owner of the card wants to, they can call and discontinue it and have a new one issued. Until you get custody of the kids, you can use the card on the kids. After you have custody, the kids shouldn't be on bios "household"

I don't get food stamps for grandson , as he is in my custody and I make too much. However, gd is in moms custody, dss is aware baby is staying with me while mom works on treatment plan. Thus they won't take it to court, so ddmom gets to stay eligible for the welfare money, food stamps, and 2 br housing. If she loses custody, she would loose the benefits, and I wouldn't qualify for them anyway.
