My husband worked nights (tractor-trailer driver) and I worked at home. Just before we got the kids he retired and I got lured into a full-time job. He did a pretty good job with the kids for four years. Then I got laid off and I'm working on resuming my work-at-home career.
What's really funny is the differences in parenting style with men and women. On Tuesday I spent the entire day working at the polls. When I finally dragged myself in the door, tired but happy, at 10:00, there was my husband and all three kids watching "Dante's Peak" at full blast. Dishes in the sink, popcorn everywhere, a Monopoly game spread out on the table, hungry cats, you name it.
I just laughed -- it was right out of some sitcom! But the kids were deliriously happy and scared out of their minds from the movie (we had to tell them it was all make-believe). So considering my candidates won, it was, all in all, a great day :-)
