This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. I know this from Al-Anon, but watching Pinky in action is driving me completely, totally nuts.
I'm now convinced that she is clean and sober, and has been for several months. (She said she finally gave up pot about five months ago -- her boyfriend/fiancee demanded it.)
She has become Super Mommy. She hovers over the kids, does their laundry, cleans up after them (even after we've been trying to get them to clean up after themselves), plays with them, listens to them -- in short, she's the Perfect Mother.
For the weekend. Then she gets to home to lover boy, peace and quiet, and all the privacy she wants.
She's even the Perfect Christian now. Reads her Bible every day, goes to church (there goes our Sunday babysitter), talks about Jesus nonstop, etc. From the time she wakes up until the time she goes to bed her mouth is flapping. Calling the kids, telling me something (about hair and clothes -- the only two subjects she knows anything about).
She's still going to look for a job "next week," get pre-marital counseling "next week," get baptized "next week," and on and on.
We all go to the eldest's school "moving up" ceremony, and Pinky rushes to introduce herself to everyone as "So-And-So's Mother." She has no clue that this is a small town, and everyone knows EXACTLY who and what she is.
I think I'll have to re-read some of my Al-Anon books to get through this. I think it's a textbook case of the Pink Cloud, and they warn us that it will drive us bananas.
You'd think I'd be happy about all of this, but both my husband and I know that a crash is coming. Since she got sober, she has not experienced even one crisis of any kind. We just don't know how she'll react to one, but her positive attitude is as abnormal as it would be if she were depressed 100% of the time.

I really think I'm seeing that famous Pink Cloud that Al-Anon talks about, and it's starting about the right time in her recovery. She attends NA, so I hope someone there picks up on it.
But something is still off. She called this morning to tell me that she isn't going to get baptized until after she gets married. And now she wants the pastor of her church -- not his -- to marry them. Which means premarital counseling, etc. will be put off until "next week." EVERYTHING is "next week."
My husband doesn't think they'll get married. He thinks the guy will realize that he's about to make a mistake, although he really seems to love her. I think either he loves her or loves what he's getting for free. HAHAHAHA! We just can't figure out what else he sees in her. He's college educated, disciplined, careful with his money, and she doesn't even have her GED and thought that Mount Rushmore was in Washington, DC.
Sheesh!!!!!
