I posted this rant to United GrandFamilies on FB but am interested in other people's feedback.
I'm going to rant a little. I am happy our dd appears to be doing better with her life. From what we've been told, she's working (because new babydaddy is not), they have his children from a previous relationship. Oddlyl enough, their bio-mom is an addict. They seem to be doing well, I know it is heaven compared to what they've experienced.
From our dd's visit a year ago, I know life is not perfect, babydaddy is VERY controlling (if you remember he left after being ask to "help" with our gs, to go back to Columbus without dd and gs), I know they still smoke a lot of pot (through the day)...I don't know about other drugs, but cannot imagine they've gone cold turkey...hope they have.
Anyway, it's probably good she posts lovely pictures with all the kids. Kissing hugging and having a good time. Some days I think of our gd and wonder what will go through her mind, not if, but when she sees these pictures. Makes me so sad and scared.
We gave dd every opportunity to build a relationship and she has chosen to take the time to raise his bio kids and their bio....don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're not here because reality would come to light if they were. I know our gd will need lots of therapy and age-appropriate truths regarding her bio-mom.
Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm so sorry your GD will have to deal with this some day! Our 17 yo GD gets upset just seeing all the love and care and concern her bio mother shows for her creepy BF on Facebook. Ugh.

Thank you Hope. I'm trying so hard not to worry about things before I need to, but if I could get ahead of this.

With your love and support she will be able to process her emotions about what her bios have done. Could you help me find the Facebook page or group you mentioned I couldn't find it and would love to join more supportive online groups. Thanks

Unfortunately I think we will have a generation of kids raised in similar circumstances . All we can do is show them the way and show them unconditional love. Our grandson has had it rough but he holds on y p family as a blessing. I have not heard of one bio who really wanted their kids because they loved them. Usually they want welfare based on how many kids they have. We moved just far enough from bio dad to make it difficult for him to visit. Eventually he gave up his rights and said weI uld adopt, as ml on a's we didn't ask for money after he had collected $9000 in benefits while his son was being ca red for by us at our ex pense.

I am grandparent programs coordinator for U of I Extension. I work with schools, churches, mental health facilities and count services. Most support groups ha ave someone to watch children to allow grandparents to attend meetings. We have local services and educators speak to groups. Sometimes we have a lawyer come in to discuss grandparents rights. Meetings are usually held twice a month, one in morning and one in evening or on weekend. Try call your local service agencies ,churches, and s schools for information.
