Last week was our second hearing for the adoption of our Gs. It was supposed to be to terminate my daughter's parental rights. Through 2 divorces numerous custody hearings etc. she has never appeared in court nor even responded for either of her children, until last Tuesday at the last minute, with a new Bf in tow. The judge was upset with her for giving no notification as to her intentions and when she said she was there to fight for her son he held a formal trial. I had to testify for over 1/2 hr., she was put on the stand and questioned by both the judge and my attorney. when it was over, everyone gave recommendation that adoption should go through and she said she thinks she should have an attorney. At least when she gave an inflated amount of income the judge told her to hire her own. She actually did and now there will be a phone conference pre-trial with her attorney, mine and the court on Tuesday. They will then decide whether to hold another trial. I do not know how much more of this I can take. It was so sad having to tesitfy as to why I felt she should not have her son and all she did was sit and cry because she had no defense. She abandoned him and has failed to support and/or show reasonable interest or maintain contact. But I am still frightened. The judge ask me to write her a letter explaining that we will not keep her from him if she gets herself together in the future, but that further testimony will put a separation to this family that may never be fixed. I keep thinking I should have left well enough alone. she never bothered with him, and now she is.
