My granddaughter's father took me to court for visitation/custody. He did not show for final hearing (I didn't think he would show up because at 1st ct. hrg. I realized he was only concerned about having to pay me child support which I never requested from the scum), Now I am petitioning the court to adopt and my atty. sent him a letter saying if he signs of on his rights I will not seek child supprt. Background: dad in prison and jail numerous times and release from prison 1 1/2 yrs.
A few days ago my granddaughter and I went for a bike ride. Her dad saw us on the sidewalk, approached us and began trying to persuade me to allow visitation. I was scared because I know he is a violent/drug addicted criminal. Because I would not say he could see his daughter, he became very upset, screaming and crying "why are you doing this to me" I knew I had to keep him calm. On 2 occasions he said to me "I know where you live". He kept asking me if I was going to call the police on him. I replied no (like I would say yes, duh). He was out on bond for propositioning two 14 yr. old girls riding their bikes. I told my counselfor about the incident and she INSISTED I file a police report. I did this yesterday and police said I didn't have to worry anymore because dad was in jail on secret indictment charged with three counts of importuning and one charge of gross sexual imposition. He also faces one count of public indecency, He posted bond and is released. Now they want me to file charges against him so cops can put him back in jail for violation of bond (he is not to associate with minors) since he approached my granddaughter. I am scared to press charges. He is very violent (cut my daughters throat with a box cutter in front of my 2 granddaughters while screaming I will kill you). I don't want to be involved but yet I want him in jail and I don't want him to think I am afraid of him (but I am scared to death of him). Any advice, would you want charges filed if you were me?

I definitely think you need some good legal advice before you decide what you should do. I think your case would be harder to prove because it's "he said, she said." BUT it could help to keep him in jail longer, if he's convicted on those other charges.
