Funny how in their little minds they got it figured out. My daughter lives at home and is mommy and I am mom. Nothing too shocking there. However, my GS 2 1/2 knows when and for what to turn to me and when and for what to turn to mommy. She does not take an active role in caregiving but will play with him and tolerate him when she wants to. he seems to have it figured out too.

My daughter doesnt live with us but my grandson also knows who takes care of him and who his playmate. This hurts my daughter but she is the one who chose to be the big sister and give me the motherly responsibilities I hate that she hurts when this happens but I cant turn my back on him when he needs me.

when our grandson was 2, he started asking me: are you my mommy? No, I'm your grandmommy. He then went to my youngest daugher and asked: are you my mommy? She said: no, I'm your aunty. He accepted that and we left the subject alone until we showed him our eldest daughter's picture and explained that she was his mommy and that she was in Heaven with Jesus. We told him she loved him very much but got very sick (had brain tumor) and went to be with Jesus. We assued him she was watching out for him from Heaven. One night he got very scared and kept jumping out of bed. I assured him I was just down the hall and he would be okay. He had started the monstor's in the closet thing(another whole story) I showed him a statue of the Blessed Mother holding Baby Jesus and added that the Blessed Mother and his mother were both looking out for him from Heaven. He told me: well it's nice that they're there, but I sorta need somebody here. I couldn't help but scoop him in my arms and reassure him I was there for him. This trust we built was broken when his bio dad remarried whacko mom (another story) but I'll never forget it.

I think it is really interesting how your gs figured this out all on his own, it's amazing how intuitive these little people are. My gd is now calling me mommy most of the time but sometimes still calls me grandma. She is starting to call her adoptive mom Mammaw like she used to do when she was little, instead of Grandma/Mom which she started calling her after she moved her with us. Eventually she will probably call me Mom/Mommy all the time and that's okay, she knows she has a bio mom out there somewhere, she knows her other grandma adopted her when she was little but is her grandma. She knows my son as her Dad and now says that he is Dad but my hubs (Grandpa) is Daddy.

I know that one of these days the adoptive mom is going to learn that she does not see her as Mom anymore and will be pissed but this little girl has determined in HER mind what she wants to call everyone so she will just have to deal. I might have some sympathy for her (adoptive mom) if she had been a good mother to Missy but she neglected her, called her names and repeatedly send her to the home where she was sexually abused...when Missy tried to tell her about it she didn't believe her. In my opinion tho I would never say anything to Missy she doesn't deserve to have the title Mom!!!

Little ones will never cease to amaze me. That is truly precious. My gs has never asked for or about his mother. Kinda said when you think about it.

Little kids are very smart. My little one knows exactly who her Mommy is and gets upset if anyone says I am her Gramma. She knows logically that I am but she says I am her only Mommy. She has said she wishes she had grown in my belly. She knows about her bio mom but the only thing she feels towards her is resentment. That wasn't my doing, she is just very intelligent. I've always told her that her parents loved her and wanted her to be in a safe home with someone who loved her. I don't really understand it, she resents bio mom but still misses her Dad. It may be because I'm a single mom and she wants a man in her life. She told me I need a husband ;-)
