This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. The bio-dad's mother (of the two youngest) is visiting her boyfriend's mother in MD and wants to come by our house to see the kids. (She lives in TX and that's too far for a pop-in. HAHA)
She's the oddest duck. Never calls, never sends presents, but she's very nice and sweet and genuinely seems to love the kids. Whenever they call her she talks to them forever, but just doesn't initiate anything. She would love to have them in TX for the summer, but she's quite an enabler, and we're afraid she'll let her druggie son take them out for the day or something. We're not sure if he's in jail this week or not...
So I'll drive the youngest two to a halfway point, we'll have lunch, then come back and have the rest of the family over for a BBQ Sunday.
Pinky and "Nana" really dislike each other. Pinky was living with her in TX the first time she couldn't decide whether to raise her kids, go to rehab, etc. Finally "Nana" kicked her out, put her on a plane and sent her back here, and the rest is history.
For all of her remoteness with the kids, I find her to be intelligent, funny, witty and sweet, so I know I'll enjoy the visit at least. But it should be interesting to see how well "Nana" gets along with Pinky. "Nana" is a typical no-nonsense Texan, if you know what they're like. EEEEEEKKK!

Nana definately sounds like someone who would be very unlikely to give Pinky the time of day with the circumstances involved. It's a good thing you will enjoy visiting with her since the interactions between them will be strained. Glad she at least wants to see the kids.
Nana saw her mental deterioration in less than 10 minutes and said it was sad that Pinky keeps trying to "run my house" when she's here. I told her that I try to keep her in check as much as I can, but if I put my foot down Pinky will complain to my husband that I'm "mean to her." My husband doesn't put up with her whining, but she also tells the kids that I'm mean to her. Grrrrrrr. On the other hand, I often wonder if the kids are really seeing the difference between Pinky, Nana and me. They HAVE to, and that helps a little...
Anyway, it was great seeing Nana and the kids were thrilled, too!
