This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. So Ive been raising my grandsons pretty much since birth. My daughter had her first child at the age of twenty and thought she was too young to be a mom. So of course I stepped in to assist and before I knew it Calvin was my total responsibility. Two years later, she has another baby....same story. So I found myself raising two young boys, who of course were and still are the light of my life. Three years ago, she had a third child, who she decided was the light of her life. So here are her two boys, eight and ten, who see this happeneing. They consider me their mom. Although I have tried to encourage a relationship between them and their mom, she didn't want anything to do with it. If they go to her house, they have an hour time limit. It has been this way since the beginning. I don't get it.
My 4 year old GD rarely gets a call from her mother (my DIL). Her Dad, my son is in regular contact. She recently asked me if her other mommy was dead. She calls me Mommy.
In every sense you are their mom, bless you.
Im curious if either has inquired about the new addition.
Perhaps when you have them from such a young age they simply don't feel that bond with their bio mom. I can't say what's going through her head but it's hard to think just the 1 out of 3 holds her heart. Then we can't always understand the how's or whys.
