Finally was able to get bio dad to meet with me last night. I told him about the adoption and he's in agreement! He gave me his address and is willing to sign whatever they send to him!

I think I'm still in shock! I emailed our lawyer today. Does anyone know what the next steps will be? I'm a bit anxious:)

If both parents agree to letting us adopt...is it all pretty smooth?

SOOOOO EXCITED...and tired since I couldn't fall asleep until 2am...that alarm went off too early this morning:)

Woo-HOO!

If your state is like ours, the rest should go smoothly. In our case, once the "complaints" are filed, the next step is a home visit, then the hearing and we're done.

What we found funny is that the bios sign away all rights, but in NJ they can still pay for college. HAHAHA - as if they have a dime to their names, anyway.

Congrats....your almost there. We had to go through DCFS and it took us 2 yrs to adopt because the bio mom (not my daughter) was hard to find in and out of mental hospitals. Also the SW did everything soooo slow and didn't have her paperwork done for some of the hearings. The court system here in California are full of messed up Bio parents that get their kids taken away.

I wish we could have gone the other way however; the bio mom wouldn't give us our gs and took off and disappeared until a good Samarathin called DCFS that they saw a mom with 2 mth old baby sleeping in the streets.

Now my gs is almost 5 yrs old and we heard the mother was died and last July my son, the father was struck and killed by a car.

I hope everything goes smoothly....

The Home Visit just seems so strange to me. We were awarded guardianship (which means she lives with us and we care for her) with no home visit, but to change her name we need to pay someone to say our home is safe...bizarre!

I, too, think the home visit is nothing more than a money-grab by the state. We've had our three for 10 years! Yet now they suddenly want to make sure we have railings on the stairs and food in the fridge? Sheesh! (It costs anywhere from $700 - $1200 in NJ - AND they could have required three separate home visits, one for each kid!!!!!!!!!
