My GS/son is having hernia surgery tomorrow. I'm worried due to his lung issues. We just got him off the breathing treatments this year. He keeps saying Hospitals are where people die ( I have no idea where this comes from). I've assured him hospitals are where people go to get better. I told him about how when he was a baby he had to stay in the hospital for a few days cause he was sick, and that I was right there by his side the whole time.
We have talked about the procedure and I've reassured him I'll be there the whole time and will stay with him until he goes to the operating room doors. I've explained to him I can't go through those doors because I have germs. . But I will be waiting for him when he is done. . We also talked about how his belly will hurt for a few days and he and I will have to play board games in bed and watch movies. I told the Doctor I didn't want the IV started until he was asleep because I want him to be painless as much as possible. The doctor agreed!
He seems to be understanding everything for a five year old. I don't know what more I can tell him. Today I'm taking him to the store, I told him he can pick out his Ice cream, Popsicle s and drinks for when we get home.
I'm scared and nervous!

My grandson went through 8 manor surgeries on his ear between age of 7 and 17 as well as multiple ear infections. Good idea on choosing ice cream ethnicity all. I found Ovaltine with milk and ice cream in the blender to be a big treat and gave him vitamins when he wasn't eating well. Also bought him Lego kits that kept him busy. Good luck. Prayers are with you.
