Hi everyone-I posted a month back about having the two Grandsons living with us. Their Grandmother, my wife, was diagnosed with terminal cancer a few weeks ago. It has and will be a long journey. The boys have now been placed with their other Grandmother because we do not have the energy at this juncture to take care of them. This was totally unexpected and it has been a very stressful event. Life is so unexpected, when I thought I was starting to adjust to a major life change and be a parent again at age 61, that changes and now I am being a caregiver to my wife who will undergo chemotherapy for inoperable rare form of sarcoma. Life does not make sense.
My wife and I were talking about our experience of being full time care givers to the two boys for almost a year. We are in agreement that social services in our county was less than helpful, misleading, dishonest, and non supportive to us. If it sounds like sour grapes, so be it, but our experience with CPS was less than satisfactory and that is ONE thing I will not miss.

Runner, prayers for your wife and you. I am SO sorry. And prayers for your grandsons also. I understand about CPS. They are awful here also.

Praying for you and your wife. As a GM raising her GD this is my biggest worry, that I may not be here to care for her until adulthood.

CPS here were OK. I really didn't have a lot to do with them other than the monthly visits with the caseworker - who seemed to care.

Runner...My prayers to you both. I try not to look ahead as I often wonder if something happens to me....what will happen to her. It scares me so much to even think that way. You both need to focus on yourselves now. Those boys know how much you love them. God is good and I truly believe has a reason for everything. We do question things that happen, but as a Christian, I know there is some reason. You can't believe all the times that I questioned why all of this happened. After working so hard all of my life, raising children....I was finally ready for "me time". That didn't happened. I'm a great person...I have given so much in my life. I now have been raising a baby (17 mo) since she was 3 days old. Who can explain this? So many questions to God. I realize that we were chosen to give these children the best. We could devote so much to them and they needed our love desperately. That was the reason. Take care of your wife now. Focus on what is the priority. You will be blessed for what you both have done for your g/children. Praying for you both.....
