GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.
I felt this burning come on right at lunch time. I was sitting with some friends and the burn was unreal (based on my past experiences it was bad).
I can't say I was fully hungry, but it was lunch time. I ate and I had a soda which produced some belching and relief.
This morning I felt a little reflux still, but, hoping it does not get as bad as yesterday.
As an anxiety suffer I also worry about my heart, etc, but all that has always checked out. I had an anxiety attack with my GERD yesterday, egads, it was terrible.
Till I was diagnosed I swear I never felt anything, but then again, I had begun getting treated/checked for chest pain in Aug 2007 and GERD or Acid Reflux was diagnosed in Dec. 2007.
Maybe all along that was it....
I enjoy food, drinks, and life to much.
You could be right about the meds. I was first diagnosed with reflux with no meds. I went for an upper GI serious and the doctor said "Oh, he does not need the second round of barrium(sp), I can see he has reflux.
Before that I never knew I had it, but shortly after the first test I developed a burning in my throat. After an upper endoscopy they found the hiatal hernia.
Been on the Nexium now for a few years, could be losing it usefulness. Sometimes my chiropractor makes adjustments in my abdomen and I feel better too!!
I am using my chiropractor also for acpunture for my anxiety issues, but he has said he may be able to help with the reflux.
I hate flare ups, it is a little frustrating, I guess I did not expect flare ups being medicated.
I should probably drink more water.
Even with the meds one has to watch their diet, no acids, no spices no carbonated beverages, no caffiene or caffiene free tea or coffee, no milk shakes,
I know its hard to follow this type of diet and we get feeling better and wow acid break thru, I get it even if I eat some raw veggies at times. so I really do the GERD diet.
Take some gaviscon along with you next time and barbeque is probably on the top of the list of things to avoid.
There is alot of good info on the internet about GERD diets,
Acid breakthrough occurs because we dont stick to the foods we can eat and drink.
You're lucky all you had was indigestion; that combo would have buried me.Please take better care of yourself.
