GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.

It could be a concern when a certain med stops working and you need a stronger one. Doctors tend to be too complacent about chronic heartburn/reflux.
If you only have acid reflux/heartburn, I cant see popcorn being good for that. It is not an easily digested food. Papaya is good for most people who have heartburn and reflux. If you have gastritis as well then the rules on what you can eat are very different. I find people who only have heartburn can eat and not eat all the same things but with gastritis it is harder. So popcorn may work for gastritis but isnt good for heartburn and reflux. Any corn is usually bad. Apples are bad for most people with heartburn as well. Bananas tend to be good for people who only have reflux and heartburn not gastritis sometimes though. Many vegetables are on the no list for heartburn too. Like red and green peppers, broccoli and cauliflower as well. Leafy green stuff is good. As well as sweet potatoes, white potatoes and celery.
A food journal is a very helpful idea. Or do the elimination thing. They both work but take time. There are a lot of things you shouldnt eat for heartburn/reflux. there are a lot of good threads on it here. Very plain and boring is the key and checking the ingredients in everything you eat. Black pepper is the number 1 no no!
If the source of your reflux is gastritis it is much more complicated but the food journal works for it as well.
If you only have heartburn and reflux and no gastritis then this can be managed with diet alone. It takes a lot of discipline to get to this point though. I had regular heartburn for a year. I have a small hiatal hernia. That has caused my heartburn and makes it more challenging to eliminate the heartburn but with determination and hard work I got myself to the place of no symptoms and rarely had to take meds. it can be done but it takes major determination and and a no anxiety personality.
If you only have heartburn and reflux, you can pmessage me for more help with the diet part. if you have gastritis as well, go to their site to get more help. it is a more complex issue.
Good Luck

No I have never had a scope down my throat. I did have a stigmoidescopy done for my irritable bowel syndrome though.
I can cut out the black pepper.
Just keep working at the diet part.
If you have had heartburn/reflux for a long time you need to have a scope done. Ask your doctor for one.
Throwing up is not a typical acid reflux or heartburn symptom. Do you have gastritis? People tend to get really nauseas with gastritis and throw up.
when was your last scope mjones?
If you have had chronic bad heartburn for years you must get a scope done!
Has the doctor never said to have one done?? That is bad if so.
Just do it. It is a concern when meds stop working and you have to up it to a higher med.
You need to have your esophagus looked at. Doctors can be way too laid back about heartburn.
There is a good chance it is fine but you want to make sure you are not damaging the lining and you can develop Barretts esophagus with chronic heartburn.
please get it checked.
You must be in the states!!!! No universal health care!
It is not scary at all! it is so quick! Try not to worry about it.
