GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.
It does sound like GERD to me except for the stomach part. All the other symptoms you are talking about seem like atypical or silent reflux( they call it). It can effect your breathing, throat and you feel like you have post nasal drip and have to clear your throat a lot and have trouble swallowing.
I would get it confirmed with a doctor and get your throat and esophagus checked if you have had these symptoms for a while.
Good Luck.
I agree with Lesleyqm. I have all of those symptoms. The post nasal drip is one of them too. I hate that post nasal drip.lol I would very much check that out with your doctor.
I went bland with my food and it helped, and also no late night eating!
I hope you start to feel better soon!
Vicki.
I do eat pretty healthy, so I guess the next step is to NOT eat before bed!
A bland diet is the key to this silent relux issue. You need to stick to all the GERD rules and figure out what healthy foods give you reflux. Many healthy foods can cause you silent or obvious reflux.
Some of the healthy foods that have high fat content in them are often triggers for people. I have to be careful not to eat too many nuts or too much peanut butter and small amounts of avacado.
Yes, refluxing while sleeping often causes the silent reflux symptoms and it can be from anything you have eaten during the day. Sometimes I have not had any symptoms during the day at all and when I wake in the morning I can tell my esophagus is irritated. You often dont even know it is happening while sleeping.
So it can be tricky figuring out what is causing you a problem.
The food journal is always the best way.
Good Luck and I hope you all have no reflux at all soon!
