GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.
I know you don't want to restrict your diet forever but if you can find the cause and eliminate it you will feel better.
There is a Gallstone forum in daily strength which has tips that you may want too look at or join.
Hope you get better soon.
I discovered recently that I have a sympathetic nervous system problem that results in a rapid heart rate at rest at times. When I am having the rapid heart beating, I'm usually experiencing GERD as well. That is consistent with the 'fight or flight' response. And, it seems that when I get the heart rate down, the GERD symptoms go away. I am still taking PPI's daily, and was, at one time, taking them 2x/day at the OTC dose. I do not have a hiatal hernia, and I'm thinking of trying to get off PPI's altogether by tracking the heart rate better. Modifications to diet, including a liquid diet, did not alleviate GERD symptoms for me.
I hope some of this is helpful to you.
