Has anyone who is going through peri-menopause noticed that you first developed gerd or if you had gerd the symptoms worsened? I am wondering if the changing of hormones is associated with it???????

Acid reflux has been unbearable in the last year and a half, with menopause peaking. I'm trying to wean myself off prevacid. The flare ups are complicated by constipation, which I think is worse because of fluctating hormones and water retention. I wish I knew for sure. It's so bad at sometimes, that I'm awake most of the night. And that doesn't help my fibromyalgia at all.

That is an interesting thought. My reflux got really bad about 2 years ago. It has improved some, but I am still on the protonix and still in perimenopause. Does this ever end?? 54 and still getting periods

I had an endometrial ablation which has almost eliminated the bleeding, but the cycle is still happening. I pray for an end. I blame menopause for complicating my other ailments.

I'm 51 and perimenopausal. Just diagnosed with GERD a year ago. I've also got a stress disorder from a trauma that happened about three years ago. I assumed it was the severe stress that brought on my GERD. But the timing is such that, now that you mention it, perimenopause could be a factor.

But I'm in no hurry for for my cycle to stop. Some of these GERD meds are implicated as causes of osteo problems. Every time I have a period, no matter how rough it gets, I can at least tell myself the hormones are helping me hang on to bone mass!

It gets insane. I worry about every supplement and pill I put in my body. I thought I needed to increase my calcium because of my age and the effects of PPIs. But I've found out that an increase in calcium increases the need for magnesium and causes constipation. So now I've added more magnesium. I've also spent a small fortune on digestive enzymes so I can reduce the prevacid.

What a fine tuned piece of work we are. It shouldn't be this hard.

Well....I'm 48, pretty healthy otherwise, still having periods (along with occasional hot/cold flashes), and just diagnosed with GERD. It's pretty bad and taken 4 months to figure it (if we have). Dr's and I first thought it was asthma, then checked the heart...finally got to a GI and had an endo last week (which didn't prove anything). On 80 mg Nexium (40mg 2x daily), which seems to be helping....I was also wondering if hormones play a role in this suddenly coming on.

Im sure this is right, Im 52 still having periods just dont know when to expect them LOL!! Im convinced that PPIs are bad for me and Im weaning myself off them, like evryone else have spent a fortune on supplements enzymes and you name it, Im getting back to basics and trying to get drug free, the main problem I think is hormones and anxiety so Im taking a really good woman orientated vitamin supplement ( see women to women website) and trying to get as much exercise and relaxation as I can ! sex helps too !!!
