GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.
Partly because I use a lot of inhalers, I've had lots of problems with a sore tongue. I always am on the guard for yeast, and rinse my mouth a lot. But one thing that I noticed what when I got on the right meds for my GERD, and quit chewing Tums all day, that my tongue got a lot better. And as time has passed, I've noticed that if my GERD is acting up, my tongue gets sore again.
If you've recently been on antibiotics, that raises your chance for yeast, too.
Hmmmmm. You might want to have the doctor take a look at your GERD meds again. Good luck!
Also, Jenowave~what you're saying makes sense. My "tongue" started fairly early on in my GERD adventures, which is why I don't really think it is a b12 deficiency. I'm in a bit of a bind with the meds, as well. The ppi's give me "Montezuma's Revenge" big time and a stomach ache as well. So I take Pepcid, usually 40 mg 2xday and it works fairly well. I have to take a blood pressure med that activates my GERD every single day, so I can usually count on a couple hours of pain each day. Otherwise, the Pepcid pretty much takes care of it. I also am very good about my diet. I don't have pain at night. I thought about taking my bp med at before bed and then thought better of it since I can't eat anything with it before bedtime and nighttime acid is supposedly far more dangerous than that produced in the daytime. Two pharmacists told me that the body produces most of its acid between 2 and 3 in the a.m.
Acid blockers like Omeprazol (sp?) can cause a stomach pain that feels like a hunger pang...which makes you want to eat...which aggravates the GERD.
