Ok so I've been taking a PPI for years now. I've tried going off them and I've been to two GI doctors. I had a scope dune and all that. In what I thought was unrelated I made another appointment with my general doc for various weird symptoms such as heart feels like it skips a beat and itchy skin and eczema flare. I thought it was all just anxiety and allergies getting worse due to stress.

Welli just read a new study in a journal about omwprazole casing kidney problems. Didn't think much of it until I started reading about kidney problems. Severe itchy skin especially at night and the legs....check...no lotion on the planet helps this itchi have. Kidney stones, check...I have a kidney stone. Getting up to pee at night...check...I get up minimum once a night every night. Change in frequency of urination...check I pee so much now that it's noticeable.

Freaking out here. Has anyone here had kidney problems from the PPI use? Or in general? I'm freaking out here...full on.

My liver enzymes were high last year also. I'm full on freaking out. Maybe all this time and all these symptoms are from the meds.

I have been on ppis since 2005! I am freaking out too now about possible kidney problems. I saw the articles yesterday and it seems they are finding more and more evidence that they cause it. I have terrible acid reflux and ppis have given me at least some quality of life, but I am very worried about this now. All the other warnings really haven't bothered me as much as this one. I don't know what to do! I am calling my doctor on Monday to ask about it. They always have wanted me to take ramitidine to give my body a break, but I say no because Nexium works better. I have so many stomach polyps from taking Nexium! I have acid so bad, I have gastritis and esophageal ulcers. Even on Nexium, I struggle.

I am weaning off of Prilosec by alternating with Pepcid. So far it is working ok. I hope to start Prilosec one day, Pepcid for 2 days soon. I feel great on Prilosec but the many side effects are scary (osteoprosis, Alzheimer's, kidney problems. i tried going off of Prilosec cold turkey. BIG mistake.

Hi all, I visited my doc and she said that the study was mostly for people who are self medicating without getting the blood tests while on the drug. She tested my kidneys and all was well. We lowered my intake to 20mg but I still have acid...So I'm going to have to ask her for the 40 mg instead.

I hope you all are feeling better with this news as I am. She said it freaked outa lot of het patients. She said also since these drugs, she had seen less of esophageal cancer. So that's good too.

I would just make sure your doc does the annual blood tests.

this may be late. bu twhat i heard ppi is big controversy.

2 docs proscribed that. i did my research, and good t hing i did.
