GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.
The diet that I stuck to for a long time was this.
Anything other than this list was on my No list for a long time. Keep the diet bland and boring. No fatty foods at all including margarine. No spices either for a while. Ginger is bad but cinnamon can be too. Stay away from all spices for now. Sugar can be an issue but salt is for sure. No black pepper onion or garlic etc. check all ingredients in everything you eat. This takes work but everyone can get to a good place of healing if you stick to all the GERD rules. Prop up at night. stop eating about 7 to 8 hours before bed etc. Dont have a lot of fluid with your meal. slows down digestion. No coffee, soda, alcohol. no nut butters. stick to soy. No broccoli cauliflower etc. No red or processed meats. No sweets at all. Honey is the only safe one and good for healing the esophagus. Plain water all the time
Good foods that I only ate.
Cooked sweet potatoe, white potatoe, cooked carrots and celery. cooked spinach and raw spinach. Oatmeal I ate all the time. cooked chicken. whole wheat pasta no sauces. I ate a lot of smoothies with only safe ingredients. Only papaya and banana for fruit. White fish, no pink fish. I ate soy products and quinoa too. Tofu and soy milk. no regular milk. Soy protein to keep weight up and put it in smoothies. I made whole wheat pancakes and waffles. I was hungry a lot but this is what it takes to get there. Cottage cheese its the only good cheese. Stick to plain and boring and you will get a lot better.
good luck
