GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.
Your stomach could have showed inflammation that they didn't find aftwerwards. Try the diet and look up apple cider vinegar. Many many swear by it rather than the meds. for me, my doc said try it,
P.S. I know these specialists tell you to take the medications such as Nexium, etc.. but please don't stay on them any longer than 6 months. They cause bone loss. You can look it up on Wikipedia.
It does sound like a bit of gastritis and reflux to me. I dont have gastritis but cant the inflammation come and go with it?
I agree with grammy. Stay on top of it and get a good specialist. This issue can be managed with diet only and boring is the way to go. PPI's over the long term can cause B12 defiency as well as change how the stomach functions.
Try to manage this with diet alone if you can. The less time you have had gastritis and heartburn, the easier it is to manage this with diet.
Alcohol is really bad for this issue. Stay away from spicy foods, black pepper, onion and garlic and a food journal really helps to understand what foods give you heartburn. We are all different and documenting it really helps.
Yes, Alcohol is terrible, there should be more warning about its harm!
I am not sure if Gastritis comes and goes, as well I do not know if I have Gerd (no mention of this on the report, although I read the can tell with an endoscopy), or if I simply have functionally dyspepsia.
But this Doctor did not explore any of this with me. I know I could have asked. I did not at the time, so I am left wondering.
Rather The Doc seemed content his report came back negative, and naturally when I hear this I am happy too. Until I go home and have questions.
So just take the meds the Doctor is not even a stomach doctor, his tittle is General Surgery, intensive care.
I will take the report to my Family Doctor next week. (My Family Doctor seems to hope for me to get better-he throws pills around a lot too, but I can tell he wants to help me)
**Any way**
As I know lots of people read different forums, when researching
I wanted to update something scary that happened to me yesterday
I fainted on the City bus on my way to work. They took me to hospital. Poked and prawned me and did the blood work and everything came back fine. I am at work today. All I know I started to feel really hot and nauseated on the bus, and felt like I was going to throw up. So I rang the bell, as I wanted to get off to get fresh Air. And as I got up by the Door I fainted.
Not sure what is going on with me.
The Endoscope ruled out any serious, my issues are burning stomach, burping, indigestion, and now Nauseated (fatigue and dizziness)
Some may think I have anxietybut I have never had any issues before, with anxiety or health. I am now 39.
I do know I may have a cold as well (really mild symptomso this may be adding to this as well) again now sure
Anyway my stomach feels well today and less burping, but I do feel nauseated and general discomfort. This is equally as badI feel bad.
Not surejust thought I would share this scary experience
I will see what my Doc said next week.
Ttry not to stress about it. You may have mild gastritis which is much easier to manage early on. You are doing all the right things. Just get to a specialist. A general surgeon doesnt seem appropriate to me.. You need a GI consult.
If you go on the gastritis site you will see quite a few people who have the symptoms you had on the bus. It could be the flu but it also sounds like gastritis to me. You can have all those symptoms with it. It makes you feel like you cant function at times. Get feedback from the gastritis site as well.
I notice you are in Mississauga. I am in Aurora. There is a good group of GI's through the digestive health clinics and there is a good one in Richmond Hill. You can usually get in there fairly quickly as well.
You have to have regular typical or atypical heartburn almost everyday before they will diagnose you will GERD.
I hope you feel better soon!

I hope I am doing okay, fainting is scary, although I read is usually is a one off ---I am eating well , well low calaries (not good) (but
no pop, sugar, milk etc)
I will ask my doctor to send me to a GI consult next week
I agree my symptom sound more like gastritis..or Mild gastiritis
it has been a tough 8 weeks, and this week one of the toughest, I know , even today I should be home in bed, but I am at work
Yes I am in Mississauga, as I do not Drive , Richmond Hill might be too far ----I have a feeling it will be months before I get to see a GI
Right now I just want to go home and rest for this evening and all Day tomorrow
Happy New years...
You are early on in this process and your stomach will get better more quickly. I know this issue is stressful. Just do the diet work now. I have felt like fainting with heartburn as well. Now I have the issue managed really well. It just takes time.
Google high PH foods if you havent already. Eat oatmeal and plain rice and the vegetables that dont give you gastritis. It take a few months but the hard work with the diet part pays off.
Shihonage on the gastritis site is a pro with gastritis. Message him if you need advice. He is really big on gastro med for healing the stomach. He is very good with this issue.
Hang in there and all the best for your tummy in 2015!

It means a lot..still having a hard time with things
The upper stomach burns seems to be almost gone
However ..the feeling of being nausiated, dizzy, and fatigue
Along with a soar throat levels me miserable
I cut back on the PPI two weeks ago..and yesterday
I felt gassy feeling in my lower stomach..I ended up taking
A full PPI and today that feeling is gone
I wonder if my reaction are due to the rebound affect of getting off these pills..
It all sounds like some reflux and gastritis.
I rarely have taken the PPIs but the few times I did I never have had a rebound issue but you do have to be really careful with diet when you stop taking them but also gradually reduce what you are taking and then take them every other day etc just in case. But I have just stopped taking them all at once and never had an issue.
