I have been on 40mg of Nexium for two years and my stomach is now healed. I have asked the doctor if I can come off them as the pharmasit told me that I could end up with bone problems if I don't. The trouble is my life is pretty stressful right now and I am scared to come off them. Has anyone had any success with this?
I took a 20mg one day (as was meant to alternate that with 40mg and gradually bring it down) but I could feel burning in my stomach. Is that normal? Does that mean I should stay on the 40mg?

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Good luck Jennie, let us know how you are doing. (((hugs))) for support
Good luck!
I was able to eat what I wanted when on the PPIs so cant see the benefit of going back to being restricted off them.
Also, my endoscopy was normal so why am I having the rebound reflux if my stomach is normal?
There are risks to long-term use of PPI's, so that would be one benefit to going off of them :) The most common side-effects are that PPI's inhibit your body's ability to absorb certain nutrients (especially calcium and vitamin D), and can cause stomach polyps over time. Even though I miss a lot of my favorite foods, if I could control the reflux by diet alone I'd do it, since I'm still fairly young and don't want to be taking PPI's for decades if I don't have to!
You may also want to try a little more restricted diet while weaning yourself off PPI's -- mints are a common reflux trigger, for example.
Good luck -- just keep working with your doctor to figure out what's best for you, whether that involves PPI's or not!
