Can meds after surgery cause heartburn?

My hubby broke his Femur last Sunday and luckily had surgery for it same day. His glucose levels and blood pressure were all over the place - up and down. He also developed heartburn. I keep telling him that it could be due to the fact he is lying down and they have him on so many pain meds. Do you think this could be the case? Besides his job he is now stressing about this heartburn : (

Stress and lying down can both contribute to heartburn -- is it possible for him to prop up the head of his bed or use a wedge pillow? Laying on your left side also helps a little, if that's possible for him.

I'm not sure about pain meds, but I do know that antibiotics can cause heartburn and GERD -- I'm almost positive my GERD was caused by taking antibiotics for acne!
