GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.

Just wanted to put this up. I've had acid reflux for a long time. 20 or so years ago when I got stressed I'd start throwing up a clear liquid. Over the past few years it became more like the standard heartburn, it would wake me up at night, I'd wake up with acid in my mouth. I tried to avoid certain foods but after a while I'd get it anyway. Maybe it was weight gain, age, other meds, don't know.
I tried PPIs which gave me side effects. I was on Zantac for a long time.
I then tried putting apple cider vinegar, a teaspoon in water to have with my meals. After 3 weeks or so it seems my GERD is no worse than when I was on Zantac. If anything it's alot better. I keep a glass of vinegar water if I wake up at night.
I've found I can use just normal apple cider vinegar from a supermarket. Not organic or any fancy "health food" brand.
Maybe this will help other members here.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

I rarely have any issues now.
Reflux like gastritis is a trial and error thing.
great it works for you!
I hope you get your esophagus scoped every few years if you have had regular reflux/heartburn over many years.
In my experience this issue is very connected to diet, lifestyle, mental health, meds and having a hiatal hernia.
I have a small hiatal hernia from many years of major exercise straining and wearing out that area. I was great with the diet part but it got even better when I went to a good chiro. It has really helped me and changed the mechanical problem.
Have you tried propping yourself up at night regularly? That helps a lot.
I hope you continue to feel better!
Trial and error with this.
I'll give this a try.
However I think people forget all the feedback loops built into biological systems. I suspect what happens is that the stomach presumably has acid receptors to turn off acid production when no longer needed and it could be that the cider vinegar turns them off earlier and more completely.
The amount of vinegar is probably of the same order is the amount in a serving of ketchup or vinegar crisps.
I'm not trying to sell it, I just got some from the supermarket, nothing fancy. Seems to work for me.
If you are unsure if it is safe for you discuss it with a doctor.
