Hi I'm new to this group but have been in the gastritis support group for 12 months now. Recently I developed new pains and thought I had a tummy bug. After trying the antibiotics the pain became intolerable and I now believe I have gerd. I get some relief while resting if I sit or sleep propped up. I'm letting my tummy settle from the ab before throwing more at it. I'll go back to the doctor tomorrow or Tuesday.
Does anyone else with gerd experience pain if they lay on their side in bed? If I have no pain and do that I'm on fire.
Any help will be welcome. Are there any other gastritis also sufferers in this group.

Which side are you laying on? It's recommended that you lay on your left side with GERD, since that puts the stomach below the esophagus and lets gravity work in your favor. (Although even if lay on my left side, it's usually best if I'm also propped up a little.) But laying on the right side puts your stomach above your esophagus, which can make reflux worse! I don't have gastritis though, so I don't know how that affects things.

(Unless you're one of the 0.01% of people with your internal organs on the opposite side, then switch that advice! :) )

i can't sleep on either side but thanks for the tip on avoiding the right side. I had this flare up when I first got gastritis and assumed it was all part of that. Now I know differently. I'm off to the doctor today to organise tests to get to the bottom of this. I want to know for certain what I have so i can correctly deal with it. I've been on a gastritis diet for 14 months but relfux takes out foods I can normally manage within that so my food world has narrowed yet again.
Without this site I think my sanity would have left me a long time ago. We all need each other to get through this nightmare don't we.
Thanks for your support. I was able to eat four squares of dark chocolate until this recent flare up. Pooh to losing something I struggled so hard to get.

back from the doctors I may her GORD but also have another issue. HAve been tested for viral hepatitis (A) and liver function. No results until next week. Will keep you posted.

hi everyone,
it doesn't appear that i have GORD. I had some unknown bug or virus that has finally left my system leaving me to repair my liver and rebuil the flora in my gut after the antibiotics wiped it all out.
thanks for all the support while I've been here. I'll be hanging around my usual haunt still...the gastritis support group.
