It hasn't happened yet because we live in the country and don't closely interact with a lot of other families, but we can "feel" it sometimes when we are in public. Kids see my partner and I and suddenly they don't want to play with our kids as much. Of course our kids are young, almost 2 and almost 5, and I think that makes a difference. I'm sure we'll deal with this more as they get older. Our older daughter is forever explaining that she has 2 moms and no dad. That's gotta be a lot of pressure for a little kid, but she handles it really well.

I haven't had this happen. My daughter is 2. We live in a town that has a large population of gay and lesbians, so i am hoping that when she is school age she will have class mates that will also have gay parents. Although i know that doesn't mean that she may not experience this at some point.

Since i haven't experienced this, the only thing i can try to do is let her know that she is special and loved. I will also tell her that there are those who think that being gay is wrong. I will tell her that it isn't wrong it's just that they are afraid of people who are different. I am also trying to teach her that there is room on this earth for everyone. That we all bring something special to this world and that differences should be celebrated not shunned.

I'm very worried about this. I'm bi and have a pre-teen child, and I recently started seeing a woman. We like each other and have a really wonderful connection.

I do have my concerns about being open with my relationship in my neighborhood, but most of all I'm worried about how my child's friends' parents will react. Some are quite conservative and I don't want my child to suffer because of who I am.
