The dates that developed into relationships were with men that are completely different physically and socioeconomically. My now husband is from a different country and race.
I find myself saying this a lot of times: "I find both beauty and ugliness, good and evil, success and failure in every type, race, age, gender, and culture. Those things never affect how good or evil a person is".
My discrimination when I was dating had more to do with habits, behaviors and attitudes. I once cut a first date short when the guy told me that he used cocaine. Same thing with some friendships. I was harsh (remember I come from a cult that sees things in black and white). Now I'd be less drastic.
I never had a particular type or view of prince charming. I just knew that we would know it when we met.
I always dated men at or around my age. The younger the scarier for me. Though they were great friends, I was always concerned about the age difference and what we would or would not have in common. I mean as I turn 50 in a few days I can not imagine someone 23-30 finding me attractive or desirable. I believe that there are many levels for me and I have always went not by looks, but by what that person says to me in the spiritual connection.
I always found redhead men very attractive, and had always wanted that to be a part of my prince charming.
Well, when I met Josh 13 years my junior I never thought about anything other than friends. When two weeks later he asked me to have a relationship with him and 2 weeks after that to marry him. July 2011 we will be married 15 years. That says a great deal about our love and devotion.
If we have a picture of a prince charming we may just miss out on the real one when he does not meet the idea of our fantasy.

I dated quite a few characters, got all kinds of surprises, but pleasant and unpleasant. I kept my dignity and self -respect (at least a good 95% of the times). Those not-so-great dates had very little to do with the person's physical type. It was more about me not trusting my gut feelings.
I love men, period. I find beauty (and ugliness) in pretty much every race, type and age. What I do like the most is confidence. I believe that a confident person looks good. Of course, confidence doesn't mean cocky narcissism.
In my younger years, I was totally turned of by the older set. Not because of them, it was me. (oh hell, most here know it anyway) I was molested bu an older man when I was very young. So they brought back that horrid memory. Now, not so much. I'm over that whole ordeal.
Most of my bf's have been my age or slightly younger. I just hit it off better when we're like minded and have things to talk about. My now very serious relationship is with a great guy 8 years younger than me. We've been together going on 8 months and things only get better.
As for types, I've never really had a certain type that I seek out. I find that it's always better to let things just happen. I do agree with hippo though about confidence. That really turns me on and use confidence to my own advantage as well.
for myself i prefer older men (old enough to be my dad) i have tried dating my own age, but it seems not to work for me. tend to date the bears (chubby types) or a muscle type. height is no problem for me than if we have things in common. be able to do things together and hold conversation(s) that i can treasure. tend to gravitate to strong personality and look.
cheers
