I get this kind of thing, too. I'd rather say gay than lesbian. I think it might be because if you say it in a crowd of people, they're less likely to notice and tune in to you.

I was the exact same way. I hated the word lesbian, honestly. It almost made me cringe, basically.
But you get used to it. It signifies that you yourself are not completely chill with being gay; not as much as you may think.

I always say I'm gay when I'm referring to being homosexual or that I like girls or whatever. I find that it just flows better and the only time I really need to refer to myself or others as lesbian is when I'm talking about females being gay. Most people know that when you say you're Gay you mean you're homosexual. I hate it when I'm told that I'm not gay I'm lesbian, there is really no difference. People know what you mean when you use it in certain contexts. But anyway, I find its easier to just say I'm gay then a lesbian...I find the word lesbian is a mouth full.

The words lesbian, lezzy, lez, etc make me cringe and they all sound like gross hooker STD's for some reason. I find saying you're gay is a lot more comfortable.
