shes standing on the edge

im writing this because i have a friend. (she would be writing this but she isn't able to join support groups.) my friend has been through alot in her few years. shes a lesbian, but she lives in a home where she would be disowned is she came out. she loves her family, but their constantly talking about gays should go die. i want to help her but they dont really like me because im transgender. she doesnt know what to do. she wants to come out but if she does she'll have no where to go. non of her family members are fit to take care of kids as at least 88% of them are heavily into drugs. lately shes been talking more and more about suicide. i want to help her but theres only so much i can do as my family is going through many problems. so please what can i do to help her? and what can she do to help herself??

I'm just a teenager, and don't take my advice as a professional, but her family doesn't sound like they should have kids, and it may be better to have her live with a different family. She loves her family, so it would be hard, but the 12% of them who are not drug addicts may be better fit to care for children. Again, I am only 13.

The most helpful thing you can do for her is try to provide as much emotional support as possible. If she is not safe around any other family members then there's not a lot she can do until she is financially stable enough to move out and live away from the people she no longer wishes to be in her life. At this moment in time it doesn't sound as though she is too much danger from her family so long as she keeps her sexuality quiet which of course isn't ideal but its better than being forced to move out before she is able to take care of herself.
In the meantime the best you can do for her is be a friend who she can rely on and if needed try and make sure she has access to suicide hotlines if she needs them.

Please make sure she doesn't come out until she knows she won't be in physical danger. Her family sounds like they would become violent if they found out she's a lesbian. I have some friends who are only out to their friends and wouldn't dare come out to their parents because they might be beat or be tossed out on the streets. Convince her to stay in the closet until she is totally safe from her family. It's lonely, and it's hard, but there is nothing like coming out when you know you're safe. There is nothing more important at this time than your friend's safety.
As for what you personally can do for your friend, be there for her. Make sure she knows she is important, and that she is loved by you. Listen to what she has to say, and be sure to remind her how much she means to you. Take her to local LGBT spots, depending on how old you both are, you can look up some LGBT youth safe spots in your city and take her there. She will feel immensely better just by being around other people like her.
