Coming out..

I'm 17 this year and I still haven't come out to my family. I've told some of my friends and they're all fine with my sexuality. The problem is my family. Especially my parents. I hate lying to them but I just don't see how I can tell them because they're so bigoted. My Mam's fine with gay men but for some reason she isn't particularly accepting of lesbians.
Not only has hiding my sexuality putting a strain on my relationship with my parents, it was the downfall of my first relationship with a girl. A girl I was falling in love with.
I'm not sure how long I can hide who I am from the people in my life. But at the same time I'm afraid telling them would damage my relationships with the people who mean the most to me. If anyone has any advice, I would be extremely grateful for help!

I don't know if this will help much but I am pretty much the same boat as you. The only person I'm out to is my Mom, I tried to come out to my Dad but he just kinda pretend like it was nothing and is in serious denial , and I am terrified to tell the rest of my family because I live in the bible belt and they are all SUPER religious. For example my cousin recently said and I quote "all the faggots should just be rounded up and put on an island some where" and the rest of the family agreed with him. Don't really know where I'm going with this but I am here if you need to talk.

i havn't told my family either but it seems you actually have a relationship with them. lying puts a strain on the relationship which can cause you to be distance from them. so it's sorta already damanging it. their your parents they should accpet all your descions not nessarily like them. your you and that's all the matters.

It will probably seem like both telling them and not telling them could put a serious strain on the relationship, but since you can't change yourself the inevitable decision has to be to come out and be honest. As doubtful as it may seem. any parent who loves their child will see past the differences once they become used to the idea enough to accept it. I know it's hard, I've been there too, but if you want someone to love you for who you are, they have to KNOW who you are.
