Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I basically eat fish, salmon make ground chicken patties, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes squash, spinach beets, cabbage, these are all cooked and baked, nothing fried.
I also take Pepzin GI, probiotics, digestive enzenges with slippery elm. From what I've read on these boards. Gastritis takes a long time for your stomach to heal. I always thought that it was a short term illness, not knowing all this special diet was involved.
Make sure you get some form of Vit B 12, in a lozenge because people with gastritis, acids destroy the b12 in the digestive system, my dr told me that, you can get them on Amazon.
When did you get diagnosed? Have you lost weight Ike the rest of us, I lost 30 lbs, nd I needed, cause I was thin to start.
Take care
Milk and some forms of yogurt can be damaging, and will negate all the positive effect of PepZin GI and other healing supplements.
Cottage cheese is fine, but milk itself is not. It generates excess acid, which lingers and lingers there for hours, damaging the stomach.
So drop all milk. Drop flaxseed. Drop yogurt and apple and whatever that juice is. Drop salad (for now). Drop bread (for now).
Oatmeal should be made on water. Keep baked salmon, baked potatoes, mashed boiled eggs, plain boiled chicken (thoroughly chewed).
It's important to have protein in the diet. If you can have an oatmeal+salmon diet for a while, you'll be fine, while your stomach heals to prepare you for boiled chicken.
Psyllum husks are for constipation. Otherwise, they're not gonna do much.
Keep PepZin GI, Slippery Elm (capsules), and probiotics. Glutamine may be useless after all (in my experience).
I don't know if you take any drugs, but pain could mean that you need to start suppressing stomach acid. And you may need to figure out by how much.
I advise to use Pepcid because it's safer than Zantac and all the PPIs.
You would need to figure out if one Pepcid 20mg at nighttime is enough, and if not, when does the burning resume, and eventually decide if you can live on 20mg Pepcid every 24 hours, 12 hours, or 8 hours.
For me it takes 8 hours, so I take 20mg Pepcid 3 times within 24-hour period.
A good initial test to see if you would benefit from acid suppression... when you feel burning/pain, take Pepcid 10mg or half a Pepcid 20mg, and see if the pain disappears after 30minutes or so.
If it does, then you may need to start doing this. There are cheap Pepcid generics on Amazon made by Kirkland (CostCo), sold as "famotidine 20mg".
You should do some elimination from that current diet and see what is bothering you. I found wheat and foods heavy with salt to be the most damaging.
Greek Yogurt, for me, is a tummy tamer.
