Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Most of all i can see a huge difference with pepzin gi since its the only medicine i use. PPIs (nexium/omeprazole) for a month (for h pylori) left me with some pretty messed up side effect that its getting better (weakened my LES - now i have heartburn) it just shuts down way too much acid so the muscle gets weak realy weak. Had a bleeding throat from it a few months ago but no longer do. I don't know if I ever want to touch an antiacid again but i'm so underweight i just might....
breakfast banana,rice,vegetables
lunch fish,rice,vegetables
dinner same as lunch
5 meals a day btw.
Lunch will mainly consists of a soup, either chicken and rice, chicken noodle (progresso or chunky brand). Or homemade tuna sandwhich, turkey sandwhich, or hamsandwich. Sometimes I'll have a salad and boil some egg and slice it up on the sandwhcih with asian sesame dressing.
Dinner, is usually the same.
These foods are light on my stomach.
to drink i usally have gingerale, but mainly water with vitamine water drops. Sometimes ill drink cranberry juice.
as a snack for later in the evening, i usually have an activia yoghurt, or make a smoothie from banana, strawberries, and water.
Lunch maybe be boiled chicken and potatoes or rice.
Supper will be boiled chicken at times and vegetables.
I do need to eat more vegetables. Sometimes I get weak and I will try some fries, or some chips here and there. I mainly drink water but if I want a soda I may take a swig of Coke but that is about it. I have tried Sprite at times.
I use to weigh about 190 but have lost weight to the point I am under 180. I will be so glad when hopefully one day in the next month or so I can go back to eating a bit like a normal human being. I have only had two beers in the last 6 weeks and that sucks.
When I was on PPIs I could eat more things but I'm sure it was delaying the progress or w/e the PPI was trying to help...
Later in the day: Scrambled eggs, toast, steamed vegetables.
Still Later: Plain popcorn.
Lots of water throughout. I did ok on macaroni and cheese w steamed vegetables too. No stinkin meat though or I'm back to square one. I hate this.
I would just ditch the coke, beers. If you could keep a really clean diet, i believe u can go back to where you were before gastritis. I've read a few cases where ppl got 100% better back to eating spicy food if they stuck to a low bland diet and antiacid for 2 years or so.
I'm trying to do this w/o antiacid but i think it will be impossible. I will probably try pepcid but even if i feel better no coke no beer no salt for a long time !
That pepcid is starting to look good :S
Cranberry Juice?
Coke??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And you drink these without PAIN???!!!
When i do my egg salad, i do the same as above but add little bit of salt and pepper.
With a turkey or ham sandwhich which i usualy order at a dellie once in a while when i get sick and tired of egg and tuna, i have them put light mayo, little bit of mustard, lettuce, swiss cheese, and avocado.
@Gusko Have you read about the low acid diet (Dropping Acid by Jamie Koufman)? I don't use the recipes, but I follow the principles of eating high pH foods to avoid/minimise converting pepsinogen to pepsin in the stomach which irritates gastritis.
Also I avoid/minimise stress & foods/drinks that overly stimulate gastrin levels in the blood (cause secretion of gastric acid).
