Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I'm assuming this is what I have because my scope that I had 2 months ago came back normal and the biopsy showed no inflammation. I also had my scope done when my symptoms where at my absolute worse. Burning stomach, not being able to finish food and nausea. Now that I'm off my PPi and taking my pepzin GI my heartburn is pretty much gone and I'm feeling the best I have in a long time. But I do notice if I push my stomach I get upper left abdominal pains and a hunger type pain all day. My question is this, if I do have VS, how long does it take to "heal" or for all symptoms to go away? Thanks!
Have you talked to your Gastro about trying a very low dose of amitriptyline? Supposed to be very effective for visceral hypersensitivity.
I've considered it myself, but I'm in good shape at the moment on low acid diet, Lansoprazole & Zantac combo (plus probiotic, mild digestive enzymes - & occasional Pepzin GI which I know I should take more often) so only going to take amitriptyline if I go downhill... which is unlikely in the near future.
