Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I have been flaring a bit more lately, but I blame the colder air kicking in lately. It sure is an 'up and down' condition. One week I think I'm fine, and the next week is more bumpy.
Just a suggestion, but for what it's worth, my Neurontin helps my worst days. I think some of gastritis pain--maybe most of it(?) is nerve related, so maybe that's why. Maybe you could ask your doctor about it. I find taking even one a day on my bad days is enough to give relief. An ice pack on my stomach for a few minutes helps me, too, but I couldn't stand to do that a few months ago.
Hang in there and good luck! Praying for you.
Please take care,
Cas
I have to avoid any food or drink that is even slightly acidic or those that cause the stomach to produce extra acid. Also hard foods, sugary foods, fatty foods can set it off.
Salmon & most veg would be ok for me, but an apple would trigger a flare up (hard & acidic).
I would highly recommend going back to your Doctor.
I know gaviscon would not be enough to control my symptoms when they get so bad.
Even with an extreme bland diet (sweet potato & cottage cheese & bananas) I've had trouble getting my latest flare up under control so am back on a ppi in addition to the Ranitidine. Oh the relief...
