Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

went to see my gp yesterday due to ongoing weight loss and nausea. He is going to run blood tests again to look at my thyroid this time and then a referral to a dietician. I asked him how long gastritis goes on for and he said months or even years and that it is a miserable condition. Not very good news for us.

Have you had your gallbladder taken out?

No I haven't. I had an ultrasound done last year because they thought i had gallstones.

Gastritis is a miserable condition that can be overcome, it just takes time. I had erosive gastritis and have healed so far to mild gastritis with no erosions 3 months later. I think it involves lifestyle changes, in time you will get there. I'm feeling better and have given myself 1 year to heal completely and then i will start re introducing foods.

Sometimes Drs make me so cross. I went to my local GP with terrible symptoms, he put it down to gastritis and said "you may feel like this for the rest of my life". I came off my statin meds 1 week later and felt dramaticaly better.

The best thing is to listen to your consultant, eat right and not worry, maybe a trip to a good dietician.
