Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Bland diets seemed to be recommended such as rice chicken toast bananas etc.
But what may be good for some may not sit well with others. Everyone is different so keep a food log
For sure stay away from alcohol coffee tea citrus tomatoes etc
You say your gastritis came back - how long did you have it the first time around, what helped it go away and how long were you gastritis free?
I had my first round of gasti five years ago, PPI did nothing so used my own naturals and no OTC tabs apart from the very occasional Gaviscon, I got rid of mine in about two months and was free for five years. Been a bad girl and it has caught up with me again, this time round being a bit naughty.
But like jane says we are all so different.
My husband has had heartburn for years, he can have it quite regularly and often has Andrews Liver Salts to shift it. It can really burn him. But this is quite bizarre, if he has a glass of Crabbies Ginger wine - it gets rid of it straight. away Jeez even typing that is setting my tum off. Weird x
There is a woman on the GERD site who didnt deal with her regular heartburn over many years and she now has dysplasia of the esophagus and stomach.
Regular heartburn needs to be gotten rid of. The cells in the esophagus change over time.

The symptoms of silent relux are...hoarseness, regular throat clearing, especially in the morning, regular unexplained cough, post nasal drip, sore, dry throat, trouble swallowing or a sensation of something sitting in the throat, weird sweet or metallic taste in the mouth as well, all of a sudden developing snoring as well.
Most doctors call it atypical reflux. They should know the symptoms of it or it is also called LPR. I would have those types of symptoms and then all of a sudden it would become typical heartburn.
If you have any of these symptoms regularly it could very well be reflux and then it can become more typical heartburn.
I hope this helps.
Metalic taste, clearing of throat and so on.
Thanks for this - noted ready for my gasti appointment.
Gwen
It is good you are here to learn more about it! You need to know when you have silent reflux. It does the same damage.
It is common for you to have the silent reflux for a while and then all of a sudden it becomes more like heartburn because the esophagus gets inflamed more slowly with silent reflux, then all of a sudden it is pretty inflamed.
Gastritis symptoms are different. Nausea comes with it but reflux and gastritis are often together but not always. Like I rarely have had gastritis but they are connected.
I hope you are feeling better as we get closer to Xmas!
Lesley
I too am glad I am on this site - I am learning all the time. I now realise that five years ago my Gastritis was different to this time round. I had nausea, and pinched feeling in left upper abdo and weight loss with loss of appetite. This time it is possibly still some gasti but defo silent reflux and feels far worse. I am ready and waiting for my specialist appointment and I had better not be fobbed off or else. I won't sit back and take what they say if I don't believe it. I am going via the NHS we have here in England but I also have Private Health cover with BUPA and any messing around and saying something I disagree with (after reading all this fantastic info on here) then I will bin them and go private. And I remember Shihonage (spelling is rubbish there) saying a bad doc would first give you a PPI - and yes the doc I went to see (you get a different one every time) did indeed start writing a script before my 10 min window was over ready to dismiss me until I said what are you giving me and she said PPI - told her no not yet so got Zantac.
I was booked for 22 Dec and have just been advised now 5 Jan so will update you.
My heart goes out to you all - it is bloody bloody awful but we will find a way.
There are so many people on here that are extremely clued up on this. Thanks to you all and please continue to help x
trying Zantac twice a day or a week or two along with the Carafate?
