Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Yes, it was a warning, and can be a sign of worsening. You have to watch what you eat/drink especially close to bedtime. Later in the day the stomach works less hard to process food, and this becomes more pronounced when it's damaged.
If you do feel "uh-oh, I screwed up and eaten something that's digesting too slowly and will likely cause problems at night", consider bombarding it with enzymes (yes, post-factum), and then propping yourself up to sleep in a sitting position.
Yes, it's not good for your back, and you will feel more tired the next day, but it's better than waking up nauseous with your stomach acid in your throat.
