Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
What is silicolgel for? Haven't hear of that.
I personally like the taste of aloe vera juice. Always questioned if it was ok though as the ones I've found have citric acid, but it doesn't seem to make anything worse.
I think I can say that slippery elm helps with the nausea. I also take it with a digestion tea that is supposed to help with general digestion problems including dyspepsia, bloating, etc. Just be careful as if you do take meds, take htem at least 1hr apart as it can limit absorbtion of the meds.
Interesting about the soy milk. I take it or almond milk at work...but more because they last longer than regular milk.
Let us know how you do.
I don't know of silicogel, is that for gas or coating?
I have been drinking slippery elm "tea" and it helped a bit but I'm finding that the capsules are better for me. I have to eat every 2 hrs so I take one with some warm water about 15 min before. Helps a lot. I can tell when I forget now!
For nausea I put a little sprinkle of ground ginger in my marshmallow root or peppermint tea. (warm, never hot).
This has been due to taking the following supplements recommended by our local homeopath/nutritionist:
Nature's Sunshine Brand:
-Flax Seed Oil
-Psyllium Hulls
-Stress J
-Mood Elevator
-Stress Relief
-Intestinal Soothe and Build
-Aloe Vera Juice
GNLD International Brand
--Intestine Targeted Enzyme
--Stomach Targeted Beta-Gest
--Formula IV Plus vitamins
--Omega III Salmon Oil (not taking yet because of reflux )
It's a lot to take and I don't know what it will do for reflux, but it is supposed to heal my gastritis and repair my nerves from anxiety. I like that this homeopath realizes that my stomach will never be right as long as I am having anxiety.
It has already cured my IBS symptoms (I was never formally diagnosed with IBS, but I know that I have not had normal bowel movements and had diarrhea almost daily for nearly 20 years).
I have cancelled my appt. with the gastroenterologist and plan to reschedule in 90 days. That is how long I am giving this supplement plan to help. I am believing that it will, but am realistic to know that medical intervention may be necessary, but I am going to try and live without it.
The Stomach Targeted Beta Gest has betaine HCL in it and I was nervous about taking it, but since it does seem to be helping, perhaps I did not have enough hydrochloric acid in my stomach after all. The homeopath said that the acid taste in my mouth is actually the ammonia that is produced in my stomach when the food ferments because there were not enough acidic juices to digest the food (or something to that effect). That's probably why the PPI was causing the food NOT to digest in my stomach.
I'm not saying everyone who has these gastric issues has the same thing--perhaps you are really producing too much acid, but I am just journaling my experience. I would not advise anyone to take the supplements I am taking either until you consult a homeopath who knows what they are doing. I think any Nature's Sunshine or GNLD distributor is knowledgeable about these products and could direct you in the right direction.
Also, if you can consult with a real naturopath that would be great. The gentleman who is helping me has helped thousands of people with all sorts of ailments. He is highly trained in these remedies. Aloe Vera juice is fine even with the small amount of citric acid. I think it is very healing. You have to get very high quality aloe vera that uses the inner leaf in order to not get the toxins.
I have been off PPIs for two weeks and I am having less acid than ever before and my stomach pain is virtually gone. The homeopath said to give it two months to notice considerable healing, but I am noticing benefits already. I have even cancelled the appt. I had with the gasterenterologist for tomorrow. I rescheduled for two months from now for monitoring, but not for any more PPIs.
Here is a link to the naturopath I visit. He does not charge me to consult. If you email or call, I'm sure he could guide you in what to take and help dispel any confusing information about all the different supplements available.
