Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I don't drink coffee every day and when I do it's a half cup in the morning. I hardly ever notice any problems with it. So is it reasonable to assume that coffee isn't really an issue for me?
Can this small amount be doing harm down the road? I really don't notice a connection between food and my symptoms. Not much anyway. Not often. And my doctors have told me I do not need to change my diet.

If you think it is not bothering you I would continue doing it but just be careful.
Later on you could be eating something harmless and your stomach throws a fit because you've been drinking coffee and eroding its lining for the past week. Things like that.
