Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

If u had it a long time what do u think caused it ?
please tell your stories.

Im concerned mine may not go away. I was just diagnosed with it. It do get pain in one spot below the ribs

Everyone worries about it not going away- it is the beast that is called gastritis.

I had it a "long time" in my experience, but I know there are others on the board who have had it or did have it much longer than I. (Mine lasted several months).

Gastritis is primarily caused in several ways: bacterial, stress induced or medication induced. I am sure there are probably other ways as well, but these are the ones you will find most commonly mentioned here.

As for worrying and having concerns, just know you are not alone. It happens to the best of us. I was lucky, as I healed in time. The journey to healing was not easy... frankly, it took every bit of strength I had and then some. But if you take it slow, one step and one day at a time, you may end up surprising yourself... you may just discover how strong you really are.

so the stress causes more acid to be produced ? stress must cause some other mechanisms that wear the stomach lining.

any other bacteria besides H pylori that does it ?

It has a lot to do with the core or the GI tract, where a lot of blood and nerve endings are. Basically, when we get stressed our body reacts in a fight or flight mode, which sends the blood in the GI to our outer limbs. Since stress causes pain and pain causes stress, the two are inter-related and both result in the same thing... a GI system in hyper-drive. I hope that explains it more in-depth but long story short, yes stress causes issues with the GI system period.

As for other bacterial infections that can cause gastritis, I personally do not know of any but H pylori has been mentioned many times on this site over the past few years.

I saw on your previous post that you do not seem to believe your symptoms pain is attributed to stress. My apologies for replying without reading that first. I only suggest that people consider stress, because many of the members here over the past few years have found a link between their gastritis symptoms and their levels of stress. It is a good thing to be aware of, which is sounds like you already are.

I sincerely hope you find some relief and begin to feel better soon.
