Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
My friend has Crohn's and he's on steroids, it helps him immensely.
I'm sorry that I can't be of more help. Keep digging and keep getting second, third and fifth opinions.
ONLY STRESS CAUSES IT???? I'm sorry, but my eyes just rolled beyond infinity. What an idiotic thing to say.
What about visceral hypersensitivity? What about bile reflux? What about a billion other things that go undiagnosed for years? What about just boring old functional pain which can be the aftermath of many digestive infections or disorders? What about gastritis-unfriendly foods that cause pain?
Seriously go find a new Gastro if they're saying dumb@$$ stuff like that.
Of course stress can be a cause or a factor for some people, but to say stress is the ONLY cause???? I would be shocked if a layperson said that, let alone an alleged medical professional.
toomuchPho, I dont think I have IBS as I dont have any symptoms there. Ive tried all sorts of diets, only thing that helps is the usuall gastritis diets. Bread actually seems to help me more than aggravate it.
all of us with acid issues know more than he does!
I would probably get another doctor.
I know this is hard.
You have to be so disciplined with the diet as well. How are you that way? You have to stick to the same food constantly. Only the ones that you know are good for the tummy. No treating yourself at all for a long time. I also think the elimination diet is a good idea and a food journal. This does take a ton of hard work to get better.
Many on this site I think have also had gastritis on PPIs for years.
I am wondering if you have tried dexilant 60 and the stuff shihonage says to do. gastromed and pepZin GI etc...
Lesley, being strict on the diet is one thing I really struggle with. Im not as bad now with eating 'bad' foods, but I tend to binge and overeat a lot, the gnawing in my stomach I think mixes up signals in my brain and tells me to just keep eating, I have to really watch my portion sizes.
Before all this happened I was a huge eater, my brain seems incapable of sensing when my stomach has had enough, I dont feel 'full' ever, in fact eating just makes me want to eat more and more.
Atm I am taking PepzinGI 2x daily, 40mg Nexium and 300mg Zantac. I want to try Dexilant but I cant get it in the UK, my GP has tried but says its too new and he cant get hold of it (we are very behind when it comes to healthcare). The Zantac really makes a difference so I think the Nexium isn't really working great. But saying that if I miss a day of Nexium I sure do know about it.
