Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Sorry to hear about your symptoms.
Sadly, the first thing to learn about gastritis is that it comes and goes. You can have good days and bad days and there is rarely a good explanation of either.
The stomach does take a long time to heal, it is simple as that.
I am 5 months now into my journey with this thing, and have generally felt better in the past few weeks - but by no means fixed.
My main problem is nausea. I take cyclizine, domperidone and Zofran for that, as well as Omeprazole and zantac.
The mental side of this is the hardest, because it is not a conventional illness with a beginning, middle and end. I think I can speak for everyone in saying we wish it was. Everyone takes different amount of time to heal.
The key thing is to stay positive and take each day at a time, and look forward to your good days, and ultimately the day it goes away.
In the meantime, be a friend to yourself, and get pleasure out of things you enjoy: sport, reading books, watching films, whatever.
Ravenfish - a sufferer herself - has written many amazing things about this illness and the mental side of it, so find them on Google as they are well worth reading and will make you feel better.
Best wishes,
