Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Severe flare up

Im sat here in agony as since yesterday Ive got a severe flare up. The pain is far worse than normal so I don't know what has happened. I couldn't sleep last night at all and might not do tonight. I have the ph monitoring test tomorow too. I know Im a bit stressed about it but I don't know what to do. Has anyone been through really bad flare ups. Any ideas on what to do? I can't stand this. Thanks

my heart goes out to you. Yes I did have those horrible times until earlier this year. All I could do was make my food extremely bland and soft. I lived on broths and pureed vegies until things settled. I also ate even smaller meals again and more often to keep my energy up. You can up the slippery elm at times like this also.
I used a heat pack on my tummy to settle me down if nothing else.
good luck with the ph test. The stress will sadly be feeding the pain but its easier said than done to reduce that when the pain and fear are running so high.
Hang in there as I promise you it does get easier.

Thanks Cas. What caused your gastritis,did you find out? I still don't know the cause of mine. I will have to be careful what I eat as I did have some sweets,not a good idea I know. I hope the Slippery elm has some effect as I don't really have a stomach coater only when I take Gaviscon. The Gaviscon isn't much good. I read somewhere that if its bile cutting the acid can make it affect the stomach worse. I don't know if its that. I have asked for Sucralfate liquid again,Carafate but haven't got it. I will be glad when the test is over and when it settles down. I used to be able to manage it better but not these flare ups.
