Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I also have a sliding hiatal hernia, which feels like silent reflux.
I am off ppi meds. I was on them for nearly 19 yrs and when the study came out about the bone health issues I stopped.
I find a couple things help the most for reflux -
1, eating many times daily but only small meals, about 2 cups of food max
2, taking 500 mg of magnesium twice a day and drinking marshmallow root tea in the evening and through the night if thirsty.
Trouble swallowing means the esophagus is pretty inflamed. You may be refluxing overnight while you are sleeping too. You may need to prop up at night.
Dont allow the trouble swallowing issue to go on for too long. Take a Zantac if that continues. You are right, chronic inflammation is a concern.
