Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Has anyone had reflux as well as the pain with their gastritis? Im getting both and finding it hard to eat. It feels as if there is some resistance when I swallow,if you know what I mean and its very sore. It hurts a lot and Ive been getting reflux too often later at night sometimes anytime. Is this the GERD or can gastritis do it? I just want this discomfort to go. Its all upper stomach so I don't know whats going on. I don't get it lower in my stomach. The gastro said there was inflammation in my upper and lower stomach though. I feel it where I swallow so don't know.

Sorry to hear you're not doing very well at the moment. Can you tell us exactly what you are consuming - use yesterday as an example. Are you still consuming coffee? That is like one of the biggest culprits. Are you drinking at least 2 litres of water? Are you keeping a food diary? Sorry about all the questions, but it's helpful to know what's going in.... and it could just be something simple causing the reflux.

Im afraid that I did have coffee yesterday and some chocolate today. A few people have said have more water. Im just finding this so hard. I always have something like Horlicks to go to bed on. I can't have drinking chocolate so don't know what to have. I had a lime and lemon drink yesterday too and fried fish. I know I shouldn't have some of these things but I don't know what to have. Sometimes Im ok with certain foods,sometimes not. Its not settling down at the moment though,just burning away. Im sorry we all have to be consumed with this. I know Im not coping at all.

Hey stranger, you need to send me an email, and I will update you on my horror of having BRD gastritis.

To answer your question yes you can have GERD or NERD--NERD most people have not heard of but it's a reflux that occurs in many that have BRD gastritis--It's non errosive reflux disease--meaning there is no errosing to the esopheagus because the bile in the stomach has lowered the ph making the stomach too alkaline. I have reflux but it does not show on an endo or upper gi test because my acid ph is so low it's non errosive. If I were you I would find out from your doc if you have bile in the stomach and if so--did you have any surgery, like gallbladder? If not then they really need to check the pyloric valve and LES to make sure they are functioning properly. After everything you have been through--BRD gastritis is the last thing you need. But you really need to find out--rule it out--for your own peace of mind. Look up BRD on Mayo or WEBMD to see if you match the symptoms.

Hi Sowle thanks for your concern. Yes I had my gallbladder out,2 years ago. Have you had yours out then? Ive been puzzling for ages as to if its bile reflux. The gastro said it looked like bile reflux but the biopsies I had from the endoscope didn't show it. I now know that I have a hiatus hernia,how long I don't know. The gastritis keeps flaring up,its agony at the moment. I don't know if its what I eat and drink or bile or what. Its very frustrating and extremly painful. I never knew you could get such pain from your stomach. I have pain like some boiling water has been poured into my stomach. It just burns away and feels swollen inside. Whats your stomach feel like? I really need to find out if its acid reflux or not but I don't know if I will get the test now. Have you joined www.bilerefluxdiseasesupportgroup.com? Ive looked on that site. Im not sure if my symptoms are the same or not.
